So you know, who you are hanging out with, I’ll fill you in on me. I have two boys who are Minecraft obsessed, fun loving Scorpions , who would eat cereal for every meal if I let them. My hubby is the sensible Aquarian, who rides a fixie and feels comfortable wearing a suit or a sarong. As a family, we are all things Star Wars, bikes and skateboards.
I’m a Brisbane born chick, who left school after year 11 ( Catholic school in the 1980’s didn’t get me ), I owned and operated a Restaurant for 8 years, with my then partner in Ascot on Racecourse Road, so for most of my twenties I was working my butt off. I then ran away to Sydney and managed restaurants and worked in sales and had fun.
Sydney is where I met my Hubby, we married in Byron and before we both new it I was pregnant and we were moving back to good old Brissy. It was a HUGE change!! We went from our local being “Icebergs” at Bondi to popping into the local 7 eleven to enjoy my “pregnant magnum obsession” YES, i put on 25kg!!!!!!!!
So from 2005 to 2008, life was a blur of pregnancy and breast feeding, on repeat. I had lost my mojo and I wasn’t in a good place. I was very grateful for my healthy babies as I was 37 yrs and 39 yrs when I had them. My very supportive hubby suggested I go out into the world again and find something to do that would ignite a passion in me.
So what could I do? I didn’t have the hours to commit to my past careers and I wanted to do something I enjoyed and had passion for. Sometimes the most obvious things are the hardest to see.
I was chatting with my Mum ( she is 82yrs with the kindest heart ) who started to remind me of my life long passion for fashion. In primary school my wardrobe was made up from my “Op Shop”, bargins and I defiantly new what I liked and what I didn’t ! I was given hand me downs from the Murphy girls ( there Mum was one of my Mum’s dearest friends and always very well dressed) the girls clothes were GORGEOUS, so I learnt about well cut designs and good fabric’s early in life. Then in high school I would get patterns and change them a little of course and Mum’s dress maker would make them up for me.
So to cut to the chase, I started working in fashion retail in 2008. I had a go at designing “Active Wear” and selling it online ( thats a whole other story ). Back to Fashion Retail, for the last 7.5 years I have listened to women, from all walks of life and all ages, talk about their style and in lots of cases their personal journeys and how they lost their style along the way. The more stories I heard and the more conversations Ive had with woman who have lost their “MOJO” have bought me right here today. I completed a Styling Course in 2015 and decided to stand down from my Retail Managers position so I could put 100% into Individualstyl101, and help woman navigate their way through their wardrobes and style. I have received so much joy from helping woman find OR claim their style back. Helping women find that perfect outfit for everything from, job interviews’s, to their wedding day, each occasion needing specialised personal support. Navigating women to find out who they really are and showing the world their authentic SELF is such an amazing feeling. To my surprise there is a common thread. We all are striving to feel happy within ourselves. A lot of us have given up on feeling good and just don’t know where to start. Thats where come in, I do care and I enjoy helping women find their true individualstyle..
